2013 Harvest Diary – Day 2 Monday, May 27, 2013 @ 00:00:00
Day two of harvest and Madeleine is already celebrating lots of lovely fruit.
Gumboots off please!
Our first truck load for the season heading off for processing. Turn around time just a few hours from when the Olive leaves the tree. Extraction rate from the fruit was definitely up this year, from 14 to 20 per-cent. The dry conditions we had in the lead up to harvest certainly helped, as it lessened the moisture content in the olives.
Maddie who turns seven this year used our stay over harvest to perfect her technique on the mini bike. Last year didn't go so well. Barbed wire fences and Pee-Wee's don't mix. Gus used his time at Loch Lomond to plant an impressive vegetable garden, a mixture of herbs and veg. A pair of Paul's much loved jeans adding a little sartorial splendour to the display.
A new swing, handmade by some dear friends of ours, finally makes its debut. Wild rides had by all. No license required.
